Equal Opportunities Officer about us

The Equal Opportunities Officer ensures that the constitutional mandate enshrined of the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany is implemented. “Men and women shall have equal rights. The state shall promote the actual implementation of equal rights for women and men and take steps to eliminate existing disadvantages.”

The Equal Opportunities Officer (BfC) is elected by the employees in the science support sector. This includes colleagues from administration, laboratories, libraries, and technical services. All eligible voters can also apply for the position themselves.

The BfC is the contact person for these employees for questions and concerns relating to equal opportunities. She supports the departmental management in implementing the Equal Opportunities Act and ensures that it is complied with.

The aim of her work is to increase the proportion of women in areas where women have been underrepresented to date and to promote conditions that make it easier to combine work, family, and care responsibilities.

legal status

The Equal Opportunities Officer (BfC) is part of the administration and reports directly to the Chancellor. She may be completely exempted from other duties in order to perform her tasks. In her function, she works in a manner comparable to a staff position.

In the exercise of her office, the BfC is independent and not bound by instructions. This makes her a professionally competent and neutral contact person for all questions relating to equal opportunities.

The BfC performs official duties and is therefore not to be equated with the staff council. Regardless of this, employees in the academic support sector can contact the BfC at any time in confidence and without going through official channels to discuss their concerns.
