Family member care
Balancing caregiving responsibilities and work
Family members often provide care and support for elderly or chronically ill relatives. In many cases, it is women who take on this task. For the university, this means that an increasing number of employees are faced with the challenge of juggling their careers with caring for elderly relatives. Partners can also become seriously ill. In such cases, balancing work and family life quickly becomes a real strain.
The double burden on family caregivers is already a serious factor today.
Heidelberg University offers its employees support through:
- Care coordinators
- Seminars and events on caring for relatives
- Information and advice from the Equal Opportunities Officer
- Raising awareness of this issue among managers
- Expansion of support structures to help balance work and caring for relatives
